The Wheel of the Pen goes Round and Round for #ICAD2014 Day 8 - MANDALA

Over the weekend I got to enjoy a much needed UN-PLUGGED weekend from my various DT blogging duties. I spent some time sleeping in, cooking and keeping up with the Index Card a Day 2014 challenge prompts. I'm so thrilled that I've been able to squeeze them in and keep up so far. I had to complete days four and six over the weekend because they required more time to make them just they way I wanted. The day 8 prompt - MANDALA, proved to be a bit of a challenge.

I had every intention of making a symmetrical design – but my mind and hand obviously had other plans. While catching up on the DVR recordings, I started off with a simple flower shape in the center and worked outward. Nothing planned or sketched out... I just went for it using a Sakura of America Pigma® Micron® Black pen and continued for about two hours until the card was filled with the resulting asymmetrical design. This had me plum tuckered out and I slept the rest of the night like a baby.

On Sunday AM after breakfast I started in on adding color with Sakura of America Gelly Roll® Stardust® pens, and Gelly Roll® Stardust® Hologram pen {my absolute favorite} for some silvery shimmer details in the white space.

The radial shape is full of motion and colored shapes resembling gems. I'm very happy how this turned out, it's sketchy look - even the imperfections. My hand is thoroughly stretched and ready for some more drawing adventures!   :) Sb

WASHI makes a #Cre8time Prism for #ICAD2014

Day 1 prompt is Prism. Since I'm already a day behind because I was out-of-town on a creative field trip over the weekend, I could NOT leave the house for work before completing my card. I can do today's tonight after work and a nap.

So I grabbed my newly organized and beautiful collection of washi and began creating a rainbow of washi on my index card. I finished off the edges with a black and white geometric pattern that resembled a prism and overlaid a rainbow glittery tape with a grey polka dot washi and a ruler. Something quick and easy - but an exercise in color balance and pattern.

My completed card for ICAD 2014 Day No. 1 - PRISM

Event the backside is pretty interesting where the washi tape is folded over the edges. I'm looking forward to catching up on the day 2 prompt later tonight. :) Sb

My Newest #Cre8time Obsession...

My newest playtoy in my creative arsenal are the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos. I don't know why I held out for so long... I can't get enough of them! It started with a couple I received in an R.A.K. from the fabulous Rita Barakat and I was hooked. These combine my love for painting and pastels with everything paper crafting. I started off with a handful and needed to have more.

The Gelatos come in every color of the rainbow and a handful of metallics, that can be used like pastels - or like watercolors giving you lots of versatility and more importantly, PORTABILITY. I love them so much that I needed to label each one with it's color on the side with my P-Touch labeler {and this crafty girl is a disorganized mess} – and also find the perfect sized containers to house them so I can take them with my in my daily travels bag {you know that bag of stuff that you carry around day-in-and-day-out].

I just wanted to share this fun little tidbit. Please CLICK HERE to view my lastest project that utilizes these fabulous art supplies! Happy Crafting :) Sb

P.S. The Super Stacker Pencil Box by Advantus is the magic box housing my new little friends. I got mine at Office Depot...
